The color of the yolk depends on the origin of the egg.

Free-range eggs – type 1
The darker the yolk, the higher the nutrient content. This is typically due to the healthier and more diverse diet of free-range hens, which includes not only corn and grains but also insects and vegetables. Free-range eggs are the most nutritious of the three types of eggs.

Cage eggs – type 2
A diet based primarily on wheat and barley produces pale-colored yolks in caged eggs. This is the least nutritious of the three types.

Most eggs available in supermarkets come from factory farms, where chickens are fed almost exclusively grains, significantly limiting their diet—and, by extension, ours. While not harmful, these eggs, with their lighter yolks, provide significantly fewer nutrients than you might expect.

Free-range eggs – type no. 3
